The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation around the recent awards show was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team might be crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
